CBPP Dean Karen Markel departing ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ next summer

Dear ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Community,
Karen Markel, dean of the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP), has accepted a job as dean of the College of Business at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. She will complete the academic year at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and begin her new post in Colorado on July 6, 2020.
"ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is an amazing place, with so much opportunity. I made a home here and had not planned to leave, but the fiscal uncertainty of last summer and the messages of potential consolidation of Alaska's public universities under one accreditation made it necessary for me to seek new professional opportunities," Dean Markel said. "I have great respect for the leadership at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and my colleagues who will continue to make it an important institution in our community."
Please join me in wishing Dr. Markel well on her new role. I am grateful for her service to ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and for her contributions to making ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ a world-class university.
I will announce interim leadership of CBPP this spring, along with plans for a national search for the next dean.
