Rasmuson Foundation honors nine ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ faculty and alumni with artist awards

The Rasmuson Foundation has named Alvin Amason, professor of art and coordinator of Alaska Native Art Program at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, as the 2018 Distinguished Artist of the year. The $40,000 award, issued annually to one artist, recognizes creative excellence and artistic achievements in a career spanning several decades.
Thirty-five other Alaska artists will receive 2018 Individual Artist Awards from the Rasmuson Foundation. Twenty-five artists, including six ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ alumni, will receive project awards of $7,500. Ten artists, including two ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ faculty members, will receive $18,000 Fellowships.

In addition to the monetary awards, all 2018 artists will receive a presentation necklace crafted from vintage textiles by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ alumna Amy Meissner (M.F.A. Creative Writing '04).
Now in its 15th year, the Individual Artists Awards program supports arts and culture by putting money directly into the hands of artists. It is one of several grant programs and initiatives managed by the Rasmuson Foundation to promote a better life for Alaskans. Learn more at .
