Biography
Dr. Andrea Walker received her PhD in Criminal Justice & Criminology from Washington State University. She is an Assistant Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice at The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ (ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½). Before joining ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, she worked as a Research Associate at the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE) at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO); Director of Research and Compliance and Assistant Professor at Clarkson College in Omaha, Nebraska; and Assistant Professor at The University of Tampa. Prior to obtaining her PhD, she worked as a Legal Assistant in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializing in criminal, civil, and public interest law.
Teaching Responsibilities
As faculty, Dr. Walker has taught undergraduate and graduate criminal justice courses in different areas, including ethics, violence against women, criminal law and procedure, correctional law, and crime control policy. At ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, she currently teaches Introduction to Criminal Justice, Ethics in Criminal Justice Practice & Policy and The Courts.
Professional & Department Service
Dr. Walker is Co-Faculty Advisor for the Society of Law & Justice (SLJ), a student organization within the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Justice Center for students who are passionate about law, justice, and community engagement. The SLJ is open to all majors.
Research Interests
Dr. Walker's research interests include program evaluation, ethics in justice, criminal law and procedure, and sex offender policy, reentry, and treatment. She is primarily a qualitative researcher; however, she also has experience in mixed-method design and legal and statutory analyses.
