Gateway 2: Admission to Teacher Internship
Gateway 2: Admission to Student Teacher Experience is a significant turning point in your professional preparation as a future teacher. The student teaching internship required for licensure is a summative opportunity to apply and reflect on your development as a licensed educational professional. In the Spring of your Junior year, schedule an appointment with an SOE advisor and use the following checklist to help you verify the completion of these items. Sections below the checklist provide additional information about each requirement.

- Educator Dispositional Assessment (EDA): EDEC A295 with a minimum passing score of 1.5 overall
- Tier 2 ANTH A200 with a passing grade of C or better (Alaska Native DEED Requirement)
- Tier 3 EDFN A300 with a passing grade of C or better (Multicultural DEED Requirement)
- EDEC A407 with a passing grade of C or better
- EDEC A408 with a passing grade of C or better
- DEED Student Teacher Authorization
- School District Application (if applicable)

The SOE Student Success Office will review your survey and contact you about missing requirements or instruct you when to proceed with submitting your DEED Student Teaching Authorization and submitting an Application for Internship Placement.
Required Coursework, Assignments, & GPA
The BAEC program provides an integrative capestone experience to help teacher candidates develop a framework for professional educational practice. EDFN A300 must be completed with a grade of C or better. Students complete an Action Research Project in EDEC A407 and Case Study Analysis in EDEC A408. These assignments align with other key assessments completed during program preparation, demonstrating growth in professional development. To advance to teacher candidacy, students must pass both assignments with a grade of C or better. In addition to passing specific assignments and courses with a minimum grade, all students applying to teacher candidacy must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and pass the Basic Compentency Exam.

If you did not previously received a passing score on the Basic Competency Exam as part of Gateway 1, please submit the Gateway 2 Survey to verify your completion of this requirement.
Other Applications
Teacher candidates must submit state, university, and school district applications (if applicable). As of June 1, 2024, DEED Teacher Certification only accepts online Student Teaching Authorization Applications through TEACH-AK. You must complete a Student Teacher Program Enrollment Form, provide verification of a, and submit a. Once your DEED Authorization has been submitted through TEACH-AK, you will submit the Internship Placement Application. Depending on your internship location, you may also be required to submit an application directly to the school district. The SOE Student Success Office will advise you if this is necessary.
