School of Social Work faculty members Donna Aguiniga and Kathi Trawver co-authored an article that employs the voices of 22 low-income mothers to examine the factors that influence how low-income mothers perceive their intimate partner relationships.鈦�
School of Social Work Professor Tracey Burke and Dietetics and Nutrition Assistant Professor Amanda Walch collaborated with each other and 乐播传媒 students to publish three manuscripts from studies they have been conducting with the St. Francis House Food Pantry to determine food pantry needs within the community.
While most know Mary Louise Rasmuson for her extraordinary philanthropy and the many structures, organizations and foundations that hold her and her husband's namesake, what many don鈥檛 know about Mary Louise was her incredible contribution to pioneering women鈥檚 work and rights in the U.S. military. She is an inspiration to many, but for Vanessa Meade, assistant professor in 乐播传媒鈥檚 School of Social Work and Army veteran, Rasmuson holds an extra special place in her heart. Meade is the coordinator for a new community-based project Operation Mary Louise (OML), named after Rasmuson, a woman she greatly admires for her military and leadership service. She hopes the project will shed light on Rasmuson's military contributions and all the women in Alaska who have served.
Since 2014, the Municipality of Anchorage鈥檚 (MOA) Welcoming Anchorage project has been building a network between local businesses, organizations and the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation to recognize the contributions immigrants and refugees make to our city through economic, cultural and social impacts.
If you have pets, Ashley O'Connor, School of Social Work assistant professor, has some tips for how to care for them during difficult times such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only is it important to practice social distancing between other people and your pets, but it's also recommended to interact with them to alleviate stress. She also advises anyone considering getting a new pet to help animal shelters by fostering them.
